From Olbia to La Maddalena, self-drive
Seven days to cross Costa Smeralda at your own pace. Airport delivery in Olbia, base in Porto Cervo or Porto Rotondo, and a vehicle chosen with your advisor based on guests, luggage and the roads you want to drive. No chauffeur: you drive, and every operational detail of the car is coordinated by your dedicated advisor. One single vehicle for all seven days: here you need room for luggage and for the sea, so a Range Rover Sport, or a Mercedes-Benz GLS if you are more than four.
Day 1
Arrival in Olbia, transfer to Porto Cervo
Delivery at Costa Smeralda airport. Quick briefing on the vehicle and the local roads, then a 35-minute drive to your hotel or villa.
Driving notes: From the airport to Porto Cervo it is 35 minutes of easy road: the stage where you take the measure of the car before the narrow coastal roads.
Day 2
Porto Cervo and surroundings
Morning at the marina, lunch at Cala di Volpe, afternoon on the beach. Great day for an open-top in the late afternoon.
Driving notes: Inside Porto Cervo you move at walking pace and park in garages. In high season it pays to arrive early, or leave the car and walk.
Day 3
Porto Rotondo and Capriccioli
Scenic drive to Porto Rotondo, lunch at the Country Club, afternoon between Capriccioli and Romazzino.
Driving notes: The scenic road to Porto Rotondo is narrow, with blind bends and plenty of scooters in summer. Not a road to hurry down.
Day 4
La Maddalena by boat, self-drive return
Drop the car at Palau marina, day on a boat between Budelli and Spargi, return at sunset.
Driving notes: A day when the car stays put at Palau marina. Worth leaving it in the shade: the cabin will thank you at the end of the day.
Day 5
Costa Paradiso and Castelsardo
Off the classic tourist trail: Costa Paradiso in the morning, lunch in Castelsardo, scenic return at sunset.
Driving notes: Towards Costa Paradiso the surface worsens and the signage disappears. The satnav sometimes suggests dirt tracks: stay on the asphalt.
Day 6
Inland Gallura
A day in the Gallura hinterland with a Vermentino winery visit and a stop at an agriturismo in the countryside.
Driving notes: The Gallura hinterland is made of narrow provincial roads between dry-stone walls, with stretches where passing is a squeeze. You travel slowly, and that is the pleasure of the stage.
Day 7
Return to Olbia, drop-off at the airport
Free morning, quick lunch, drop-off directly at the departure terminal.
Driving notes: Last morning with luggage and airport drop-off: allow half an hour more than the satnav says.
