The minimum age to rent a luxury car in Italy is not uniform. For premium SUVs and representation saloons (Range Rover, Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series) the typical threshold is 25 years, with at least three years of licence. For high-displacement sports cars (Porsche 911, Audi RS, BMW M) the threshold typically rises to 28-30.
For supercars (Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren) the recommended threshold is 30 years with at least five years of licence. These are industry guidelines: at Grandavia we evaluate case by case, considering prior driving experience with comparable vehicles.
A valid B licence is the basic requirement. For EU citizens the national licence is sufficient. For non-EU citizens, an International Driving Permit (IDP) issued in the country of residence is often required, except for specific reciprocally recognised cases (United States, UK, Canada).
The licence must be issued at least three years prior for premium models and at least five for supercars. We always verify this requirement before delivery.
At handover the guest presents a valid ID (national ID for EU citizens, passport for non-EU), valid driving licence, credit card in the main driver's name for the deposit, and address of stay in Italy (hotel or villa).
For additional drivers, the same documents are required for each registered driver on the contract. Only registered drivers are covered by insurance.
For the most exclusive vehicles (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce) a preliminary evaluation of driving experience may be requested. It is not an exam: it is a conversation with the advisor to ensure the requested model is suitable for the intended use and prior experience.
This step is not an obstacle: it is part of our service standard, which centres guest safety and experience quality.
Luxury cars cannot be used commercially (taxi, NCC, ride sharing), on circuits or track days without prior authorisation, nor be taken outside the countries agreed in the contract. For cross-border stays (France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia) authorisation is arranged at booking.
Compliance with the agreed mileage cap and declared use is integral to the contract. The advisor explains everything clearly before delivery.
